How to Properly Mulch

Excessively mulched trees can be found all over the city. Mulch should be 3-4 inches deep, pulled away from the trunk of the tree, and spread out wide around the canopy.

Mulch applied incorrectly encourages girdling roots where excess moisture rots the trunk and/or stresses the tree, increasing its susceptibility to insects and disease.

Improper mulching not only causes home and business owners to lose the value of the tree but it also causes them to incur the cost of removing and/or replacing the dead tree.
