Metcalf Avenue/Shawnee Mission Parkway Transit Corridor
This project includes the design and construction of 18 bus stops with shelters, two park and ride facilities, a transit center, traffic signal priority system and pedestrian access improvements.
A Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant will finance transit investments along Metcalf Avenue and Shawnee Mission Parkway.
This network focuses on high-demand/high capacity urban transit corridors which present opportunities for revitalization, reinvestment and increased levels of population and employment density.
The Metcalf/Shawnee Mission Parkway Transit Corridor runs from Rosana Square park-and-ride located on the northwest corner of 119th Street and Blue Valley Parkway, proceeding north on Metcalf Avenue to Martway Street in Mission, and then generally east on Martway, Johnson Drive and Shawnee Mission Parkway and eventually into Kansas City, Mo.
Detail conceptual plans include shelter design and amenities such as a digital message board for bus routes and schedule; park and ride locations at Rosana Square, 119th and Metcalf, and in Mission, and more.
The project includes:
- 18 transit stations;
- two park-and-ride facilities;
- pedestrian access improvements along Metcalf Avenue from 87th Street south to College Boulevard;
- pedestrian access improvements at Broadmoor and Martway;
- a transit signal priority system, which will improve bus movement, timing and efficiency; and
- a transit center adjacent to Mission's downtown, to support existing transit service and future local bus service.
The Metcalf/Shawnee Mission Parkway corridor received $10.7 million of a $50 million regional TIGER Grant. TIGER funds will support transit infrastructure improvements. It is coordinated by the:
