U.S. 69 Highway to close Saturday night to Sunday morning
January 4, 2012
Overland Park, KS - U.S. 69 Highway will be closed at 159th Street beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, and reopen at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8.
Southbound traffic will exit the highway at 151st Street, and directed to go south on Metcalf; northbound traffic will exit at 179th Street, and directed to go north on Metcalf.
Also, 159th Street will be closed at U.S. 69 Highway for the same time. Alternate routes include 151st Street or 167th Street.
Work this weekend includes the demolition of the bridge. This closure is required for construction of new bridges over U.S. 69 Highway as part of the 159th Street, Antioch to Metcalf, project.
Improvements include storm sewers, turn lanes, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, street lights, and bridges over 69 Highway to complete a four lane divided thoroughfare between Antioch and Metcalf.
Construction of interchange ramps for access to U.S. 69 Highway is not included in this project. However, the project is designed to receive ramps in the future, when funding is available.
Construction cost of the project is $8.1 million and completion is scheduled for fall of this year.
As a new 159th Street bridge is built over U.S. 69, it will require additional short-term closures of the highway. The next projected closure is expected in March, 2012.
