Compensation

Overland Park is committed to paying fair compensation based on job responsibilities and accountabilities without regard to race, color, creed, age, sex, national origin or disability.

The city strives, in conjunction with approved budgets, to compensate all employees consistently and in a fair and equitable manner as they meet performance objectives.

This includes:

  • Establishing a salary structure that is based on internal job values and above average market rates of pay,
  • Establishing a pay-for-performance system for compensating employees,
  • Developing a salary range structure for all employees (except public safety positions) that reflects an average position of approximately 5 percent above comparable labor markets, and
  • Developing a salary step system for public safety positions that reflects an average position of approximately 5 percent above the 75th percentile of comparable labor markets.
